Dear *|FNAME|*,
Doris

It takes a lot of study, prayer and Bible reading by a former cult member to wash away the false teachings of a false religion and replace them with the truth as found in God’s Word. During our Bible study times with former polygamy group members, we often discuss polygamy doctrine which we compare with Biblical teachings. Recently, during our discussion of God’s mercy and grace and justice, a former polygamy group member asked about the fundamentalist teaching that “Mercy cannot rob Justice.” They use that phrase to undergird their “works for salvation” religion. They also use it to moot God’s mercy claiming we cannot expect God’s mercy because His justice must prevail.

The answer of course is the Cross of Jesus Christ!  Its true that God’s justice must be satisfied, but it was completely satisfied and fulfilled in the sufferings and death of our LORD. Even though its true that God will not put aside His justice, it is also true that He answered His call for justice while providing His followers infinite mercy and grace.

Our purpose is to bring these Biblical truths to polygamists so that they will set aside their self-righteous works and receive Christ’s righteousness which He freely gives to those who will trust in and receive Him.

We thank you for your support and prayers that enable us to bring the Good News to polygamists.

SUGGESTED READING:

To help our readers understand the brainwashing and bondage polygamists face, we present suggested reading material which may give you a better understanding of the dark world of Mormon polygamy. This month our featured book is entitled, Cult Insanity, A Memoir of Polygamy, Prophets, and Blood Atonement, written by Irene Spencer.

Irene Spencer is also the author of the book entitled Shattered Dreams, which tells her story of life and marriage in the LeBaron polygamy group.

Cult Insanity delves deeper into the terrifying behavior of Ervil LeBaron, a self-proclaimed prophet and her brother-in-law. He saw himself as God’s avenger and used that role as a means of terrorizing and destroying anyone who challenged him. We quote from the back cover:

“Thoughts of sleep fled as I listened to my pounding heart. Whom would I grab if we had to flee for our lives? Would I take the baby and leave the other nine to fend for themselves? Whom would I take and where would I run?”

Ervil went on terrifying murderous rampages, he would engage others to do his murderous work all on the teachings of ‘blood atonement’ by Brigham Young and which was practiced during the earliest days of Mormonism.

Quote from pages 164, 165:

“My eighteen-year-old half brother Sam was staying with us. He heard Ervil’s nonsense about blood atonement and openly rejected his outlandish teachings, Miffed, Ervil informed him, “We’ll have a large following soon. The day will come when everyone will be called to make a blood covenant…”

“I challenged him, “where does Christ come in? The Bible says he paid for my sins when he died on the Cross.” Ervil exploded. “That’s a lie! His death did not cover your sins. We have to be responsible for all of our own actions. When we break the law, then we must pay. If you’d been reading your scriptures, then you’d know that mercy cannot rob justice. Every Mormon knows that there are certain crimes that the atonement of Christ will not cover. That’s why the sinner himself must pay the debt through the shedding of his own blood.”

Although modern Latter-day saints (LDS) deny their early teaching and practice of blood atonement, history shows that indeed many people were murdered under the idea of atoning for the sins that Jesus’ sacrifice couldn’t cover. Ervil LeBaron caused daily fear in the lives of polygamy group members through his threats of blood atonement.

Quote from page 187:

“Ervil vowed that very soon God would obliterate all false prophets from the face of the earth… Every polygamist group is under a curse. All are guilty of robbing God’s money. It must be stopped. In the scriptures, God tells us plainly that his vengeance would begin upon his own house.”

Ervil had his own brother killed, as well as the leader of the Allred polygamy group.  He instilled fear in every polygamist until his arrest.

MORMON POLYGAMY HISTORY

Quote from Mormon Portraits:

Yes, ''Don Juan"; that's a good name. So, let us say "Don Juan," and introduce Joseph's amorous history as such. It is now a well-established historical fact that the origin of Mormon polygamy, or celestial marriage, was nothing but the unbounded and ungoverned passion of the prophet for the other sex. Joseph and John D. Lee were the most libidinous men I ever knew, says my friend Webb, who knew the prophet for eleven years. Joseph was the most licentious and Brigham Young the most bloodthirsty of men, says Mrs. Sarah Pratt, who has known all these Mormon leaders during almost their whole career in the church.

In one of my many interviews with the aged, life-long martyr of polygamy, I said once to her: I have seen a statement in a book that Joseph had eighty wives at the time of his death. Is that true? Mrs. Pratt smiled and said: He had many more, my dear sir, at least he had seduced many more, and those with whom he had lived without their being sealed to him, were sealed to him after his death, to be among the number of his ''queens" in the other world. All those women were divided among his friends after his tragic death, so that they might be “proxy-husbands” to them on earth; while in the celestial kingdom they would, with their offspring, belong to Brother Joseph, the Christ of this dispensation.

Notwithstanding that I had lost, while pursuing my study of Mormon history, a good deal of my original faculty of becoming surprised, it astonished me a little to hear of five scores of ladies entitled to the high distinction of being called wife of the prophet. But, comparing notes, which I have collected from many witnesses, I cannot but come to the conclusion that Mrs. Pratt has not exaggerated: that Brother Joseph, as a wholesale sealer for time and all eternity, was the greatest Don Juan of this or any other dispensation.”

POLYGAMY IN THE NEWS:

Because their long-running reality show tends to glamorize the polygamous lifestyle, and there is nothing glamorous about polygamy, we rarely report on the Cody Brown family activities.

But recently, news keeps popping up about their failure to find peace and happiness in Flagstaff, AZ where they moved from Las Vegas, NV. To quote from an article in www.thesun.com:

“SISTER Wives star Kody Brown admitted he and his polygamous family of four wives and 18 kids are still not popular in Flagstaff, Arizona, as neighbors wish they weren't here, just two years after relocating from Las Vegas.”

A neighbor of the couple also told The Sun that the family moved to the outskirts of the town in 2018, keep themselves to themselves.

The neighbor, who asked to remain anonymous, said: “I have not spoken to more than two years, since before they moved into the house. They keep themselves to themselves. We wish they weren’t here because they make Flagstaff look as though everyone has all these.”

NOTE:  No matter how polygamists twist their doctrine to justify their way of life, most people do not embrace the idea of polygamy and polygamists often cause others to feel uncomfortable. They believe God commands polygamy and that no one gets to heaven without practicing its principles. There is also fear that polygamists will try to recruit their neighbor’s sons or daughters.

It is a completely different world for us who were born and raised in Mormon Fundamentalism. We were brainwashed from the cradle to believe that those not in the group were our enemies, not to be trusted.

FROM OUR MAILBOX:

“Very informative. Thank you. You know it baffles me to hear the new commercials on Mormonism. They sound so 'Christian.’ Would you discuss that sometimes?”  I.F.

RESPONSE: Yes, we will plan on doing a future show about this. Thank you for your remarks and your suggestion.

“All Mormons are descended from polygamists. How do they justify their ancestors if they do not do it now? Why get angry at fundamentalists?”

RESPONSE:  This is a great question, and one that we’ve asked the LDS naysayers numerous times. We never do get a good answer.

“… you have a better "grasp" on the truth of Mormonism than most  Mormons have. Many of them fight what you say, because they are so brainwashed and have not studied what Mormonism is really about. I appreciate all that you are doing to bring the truth to light! Mormonism claims Adam fell but he fell in the right direction, he fell up. So Adam is the god of the Mormon world.” P.C.

RESPONSE: The early Mormons taught that Adam is God and many of today’s polygamists still teach it, although the LDS church itself no longer publicly teaches it. If Adam is God - as the early Mormon prophets taught - they are admitting their own inability to gain entrance into Heaven which is what they are all striving to do:
In Adam, all die, through Adam sin came in the world.  Romans 5:12

PRAYER REQUESTS:

  • A couple of months ago we asked for prayers for “K”. He had been horribly abused growing up in the AUB polygamy group. He attends our Bible study and always asks good questions; however he continues to hang on to Joseph Smith as being a holy prophet of God. His sister is now a Christian and faithfully witnesses to him during and after our Bible studies. Please pray God will open his eyes and heart and draw him to believe in the Jesus of the Bible.
