Dear Praying Friends,
Doris

People believe what they believe because they believe it’s true. People usually do not give themselves to something they do not think is the truth—but how does anyone know that what they’ve given themselves to believe actually is the truth? Well, we are exhorted by the Apostle Paul to pay attention to “sound” doctrine:

1 Timothy 4:16 Watch your life and doctrine closely. Persevere in them, because if you do, you will save both yourself and your hearers.

2 Timothy 4:3 For the time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear.

Titus 1:9 He must hold firmly to the trustworthy message as it has been taught, so that he can encourage others by sound doctrine and refute those who oppose it.

Titus 2:1 You must teach what is in accord with sound doctrine.

Doctrine is of extreme importance and we are called to make sure we keep pure and sound doctrine. As Christians we are “in the world” and hear mockers challenging.  Biblical morality and Biblical doctrine, but we cannot compromise. If we lose the importance and the impact of God’s word in our lives and our culture, what do we have left? We have no other weapon with which to fight false doctrine. We constantly hear challenges from LDS and polygamists maintaining that polygamy is biblical and supported by God Himself—but that isn’t “sound” doctrine. They think they have the truth, we ‘know’ we have it. They truly believe the road to Heaven is paved with plural marriages and the United Order—they are sincere and live hard for their beliefs.
Our purpose is always to share Biblical truths with polygamists, trusting God to shed His light of truth on the darkness of any gospel that adds anything to the pure message of Jesus Christ alone!

Thank you for your support of this ministry!

Most who are born and raised in Mormon polygamy groups go to their graves believing that loyalty to their polygamy group has indebted God to them.  They look forward to waking up in heaven to be rewarded with promotion to godhood. They believe that since the beginning—God was a polygamist who begat millions of spirit babies each with the potential of becoming a god in their own right through righteous living and polygamy. They need the truth!!

Colossians 1:13-14 For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.

God has rescued us, may He use us as POWER TOOLS to help rescue them.

FROM OUR MAILBOX:

Hi, I live in England. I really enjoy your show not because of the polygamy but because you give a lot of scriptures from the bible. I was in the LDS church a long time ago. At first they talked about Jesus all the time but, when I got in their church that soon changed. I only went 3 or 4 times. I started asking questions like “why can’t we drink tea or coffee” after all Jesus said “it’s not what goes into the mouth that defiles you but what comes out”. Their reply was the bible is not translated correctly. So I asked the missionaries if they would rather believe the word of a 14 year old boy than the savior of the world? They told me their book was the most correct book on earth. That was enough for me. I got out and never went back, unfortunately not so my daughter she joined them about the same time and believes every single word they teach. I shared with her some of the stupid things Joseph Smith and Brigham Young preached by screen shooting their doctrine as it is shown and forwarding it to her. I always get the same message “  it’s anti Mormon stop sending me such stuff”. I will keep on praying for them all that somehow someone will get through to them. I watch as many of your shows as I can and I think you and Earl are doing a great job. Keep up the good work and may God bless you both.

POLYGAMY IN THE NEWS

A recent article in the Salt Lake Tribune newspaper is very informative about the current practices of plural marriages, young brides and incest of the Kingston Polygamy group. The link follows this article. Basically the Kingston Group continues to facilitate marriages of young girls as young as 15 years old. Many of them are plural marriages to relatives including cousins and half-brothers. When cousins marry, the ceremony is generally performed in Colorado where cousin marriages are legal. They are illegal in Utah.

Twenty-six year old Jessica Kingston was interviewed for the article. She said she was pressured by her parents and other adults in the polygamy group to marry at 16 years old. She said, “You’re just supposed to get married as young as you can.”

We quote from the newspaper article: “In a search of public records created since the start of 1997, The Salt Lake Tribune found 65 marriages among members of the Kingston Group in which the bride was 15, 16 or 17.

“Teen marriages are used as a tool to keep girls in the group. The younger they marry, the more likely they'll remain lifetime members. They will be expected to
produce large families, which will not only grow the membership, but also provide cheap labor for the group once their children join the labor force.

Faithful members would never admit that their marriages are coerced. Spokespersons for the group cannot be expected to tell the truth about their marriage practices. They claim individuals have “free agency” in their choices and are urged to not make this decision until they are well informed enough to make a mature decision.   https://www.sltrib.com/news/polygamy/2018/08/04/girls-polygamous-kingston

A recent case that broke in Utah reported a new polygamy group called The Knights of the Crystal Blade. Two of its leaders had kidnapped, exchanged and sexually abused their young daughters, then kept them hidden in barrels on cold winter nights. A few days ago, 35 year old John Coltharp was in court and told the judge that he had been following “heavenly laws”, that he was an Old Testament figure come to earth to promote child marriage. He spouted the normal doomsday message on this “wicked society” to his listeners. He said he was not sorry for what he had done, that when he molested the little girls, he was only doing what God had told him to do! This is just another profound example of the fruits of the polygamist Mormon founder, Joseph Smith. Please pray for this culture, it is still being ruled from the grave by Smith’s false and perverted doctrines of “sex for salvation.”

MORMON POLYGAMY HISTORY

“Joe informed me ... that he had been endeavoring for some two months, to get Mrs. William Law for a spiritual wife... he had used every argument in his power, to convince her of the correctness of his doctrine, but could not succeed. I then asked him how he dare preach such doctrines to virtuous and well meaning females, in the name of the Lord ... I remarked that it astonished me, to see him profess so great friendship for Law, while at the time he was endeavoring to destroy his happiness by the seduction of his wife... he replied, that Law was trying to seduce Emma, and he was determined to beat him. I then asked him if Emma knew of his having so many spiritual wives; he replied that she did … he believed she was the most virtuous woman on earth; and that she even would not be true to him if she could get a chance; but said he, "I watch her close and mean to, so long as I live." I then asked him if he could blame Law if he should seduce Emma. He seemed to think that Law would not do such a thing. I then reminded that he had just said that Law had tried to seduce Emma ... but that now he contradicted himself by expressing so much confidence in Law. To get out of his dilemma, he said that...Emma wanted Law for a spiritual husband...that as he had so many spiritual wives, she thought it but fair that she should at least have one man spiritually sealed up to her, and that she wanted Law, because he was such a "sweet little man." He then tried to persuade me to aid him in his purposes on Mrs. Law...and went on to say, that he and Emma had both tried to persuade her of the correctness of the doctrine, but that she would not believe it to be of God. I told him that...I would have nothing to do with such things; but if all parties were agreed, that he and Law had better swap wives. To which he replied that that was all Emma wanted....
He spoke of his spiritual wives particularly, and called them "great captains," in his service to carry his design, and remarked that through them he could get any stranger's money.”

Last month we promised to give out more information on the confiscation of property from pawn shops owned by the Kingston polygamy group. So far, we have no further information about the raid and possible subsequent charges of wrongdoing. As promised, when more information is released, we will let you know all about it.

We are always interested in what our readers and supporters find interesting regarding the topic of polygamy. If you have a particular question, or would like more information on a news event or topic relating to the practice of plural marriage or have a concern, we invite you to send your request to us via email:  doris@shieldandrefuge.org

We also like to receive suggestions for topics to cover on our weekly internet and Roku broadcasts. Feel free to let us know what’s on your mind. Also, if you know anyone who is in polygamy who has questions or may want to escape, they can contact us at: Toll free 1-877-425-9993

Prayer Requests:

Several years ago we asked for prayer for a polygamist wife we called “Pam with no Porch”. She was a 3rd plural wife and was required to live in a very small home with no central heating in the winter and among dozens of other structural and maintenance problems, it had no porch.

"It was a converted mobile home situated high off the ground, but the conversion didn't include adding a porch, which created a very hazardous situation for her young children."

Pam almost left this messy polygamous marriage at one point but her husband threatened her with a wrathful ‘god’ who would punish severely for violating plural marriage vows if she abandoned their relationship. So she stayed and gave birth to several more of his children, even having a set of twins. But during those years, depression set in, and she started drinking. She would drink whenever she started having negative, hopeless feelings and she wanted to deaden those feelings and drinking was the only way she knew how to do it.

Recently Pam decided she was done with polygamy and the polygamy group. She packed up her six youngest children, put them in her car, drank three bottles of cooking sherry, then began her escape trip in the middle of the night. The police stopped her for DUI, put her in jail, called one of her sisters to come and get the children, and now she faces some serious legal charges.

Please continue to pray for this woman. God can release her from the false belief that those polygamy vows have any validity. Pray she’ll have the courage to say no to all the pressures that will be and are being put upon her to stay.

Pray God will open her heart to believe the message she has heard of his unconditional love through Jesus Christ and HIS free gift of eternal life given through His grace, not through plural marriage.

"Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute. Speak up and judge fairly; defend the rights of the poor and needy."   ~ Proverbs 31:8-9
